Sure, they were only playing the Presbyterian Blue Hose. But what Jordan Bowden and Lamonte Turner did in this game was incredible. It doesn’t matter who they were playing. We had to put this game at the top of the list when it comes to the best performance these two guys had together. There wasn’t a close second.
Bowden got the start, and in 23 minutes, he had 21 points. He hit seven of 13 attempts and was five-of-10 from the three-point line. Oh, and he hit both free throws. Meanwhile, Turner came off the bench to go eight-of-12 from the field and seven-of-11 from the three-point line, good for a team-leading 24 points.
So these two combined for 45 points in just 46 minutes. Turner ha 12 points in the first half, and Bowden had eight, with the Vols only leading 40-28 at the time. So both kept up their onslaught in the second half to make sure they had a dominant 40-point victory.
That was one of the first ever games Turner and Bowden played together. Now, they are being honored for their contributions to Tennessee basketball almost four years later, and all of those honors are worthy. This game was a foreshadow of their eventual value to the program. Both should be beloved, and they will be missed by Vol Nation.
