Eli Wolf: Georgia TE, who transferred from Vols, ran 4.43 40-time
Former Tennessee football tight end Eli Wolf, who transferred from the Volunteers and played for the Georgia Bulldogs last year, ran a 4.43 40-yard-dash.
Did Jeremy Pruitt and Tyson Helton underuse a major talent during their first year as head coach of the Tennessee football program? Well, they may have given what tight end Eli Wolf just showed this past weekend.
Wolf, who is the younger brother of UT tight end Ethan Wolf, left Rocky Top as a graduate transfer last year and played his senior season with the Georgia Bulldogs. He clocked in a 4.43 hand-timed 40-yard dash while standing taller than 6’4″ and weighing 245 pounds.
It’s incredible for a tight end to have that size and speed at the same time, meaning Eli Wolf appears to have rare physical talent. He wasn’t even invited to the NFL Combine. NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero captured Wolf clocking in that 40-time on video.

During his three years with the Vols, Eli Wolf had a total of nine catches for 86 yards and just one touchdown. In his one year playing for Pruitt, he had five catches for 30 yards and a touchdown. It seemed as if the focus on developing Wolf’s blocking abilities resulted in the coaches overlooking his abilities as an athletic and receiving tight end.
To be fair to Pruitt, he and Helton weren’t the only people overlooking Wolf. Even this past year with Georgia, despite increased production, he still only had 13 catches for 194 yards and a touchdown. That’s not what you expect to get out of a tight end who has all the physical abilities to be an elite receiver.
We should also note that the Vols’ offense had numerous issues in 2018, making it hard for them to spread the ball around. And with Dominick Wood-Anderson also on the roster, it’s hard to say how much more effective he could have been.
Nonetheless, if this 40-time remains consistent, Eli Wolf may have dramatically increased his NFL Draft stock. At the next level, there’s a chance he even outshines his older brother with those talents, something that didn’t seem plausible when he was on Rocky Top.
