With two commitments already, Tennessee football recruiting is not done at wide receiver. Jeremy Pruitt’s Volunteers lead for Julian Nixon of Roswell, Ga.

Wide receivers Jordan Mosley of Alabama and Walker Merrill from within the state, a four-star and three-star respectively, have already committed to Tennessee football. Three-star in-state athlete Elijah Howard could also play receiver.

However, the Vols aren’t done, and they are now the favorites to land another prospect. Four-star receiver Julian Nixon, who hails from Centennial High School in Roswell, Ga., says UT is “ahead by a lot” right now on the recruiting trail, according to Chad Simmons of Rivals.

Nixon, who said he grew up an Auburn Tigers fan, emphasized how badly the Vols seem to want him and noted how they said he’d be a No. 1 guy. He also said Tennessee football is recruiting him the hardest, and his Twitter account, touting lots of UT highlights, seem to hint that such recruiting is leading him towards Knoxville.

Surprisingly, none of the Vols’ nine commitments for their 2021 class are from Georgia at the time of Nixon making this quote. Pruitt has notably relied heavily on that state to rebuild the Vols’ roster recently.

At 6’4″ 225 pounds, Nixon already has a great size to be a No. 1 receiver. He is ranked the No. 188 player nationally on Rivals, the No. 34 player at his position and the No. 20 player in the state of Georgia. So he clearly brings with him lots of size and hype.

On the Rivals Future Cast, the Vols are a unanimous favorite to land him. Meanwhile, they are a favorite by a plurality to land him on the Rivals Fan Future Cast. Meanwhile, three of the four 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions have him heading to Rocky Top.

Technically, the Vols are in the top seven for him along with Auburn. In addition to those two, the LSU Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, Florida Gators, Ohio State Buckeyes and Oklahoma Sooners are in the running, according to a tweet he released in December of 2019.

Right now, Tennessee football is a heavy favorite to land this guy. Their only real competition may be Auburn, whom he grew up a huge fan of, and maybe Georgia, since he’s from there. LSU as a national championship team with such an elite offense could also be in play. However, if his tweets and recent quotes are any indication, the Vols are about to land another elite receiver.
