As the passing game coordinator, Tee Martin could be considered coming up short of expectations. After all, Tennessee football had some issues in the passing game throughout the year, which resulted in the musical chairs of quarterbacks.

However, it’s almost impossible to put that on Martin. After all, he doesn’t technically coach the quarterbacks. And as the receivers coach, he did his part to keep the passing game on track. Most of the time, the play-calls were right, even if that’s more due to Jim Chaney.
Anyway, looking at the production of Jauan Jennings and Marquez Callaway, nobody can honestly say that Martin didn’t do a superb job coaching his position this past year. Both of those guys may end up in the NFL and had their most productive seasons in college under Martin.
Beyond those two guys, Josh Palmer nearly matched his 2018 production despite being relegated to the No. 3 receiver, and Ramel Keyton showed dramatic development over the season. All of that is a tribute to Martin. We’ll obviously see how he does this year with Callaway and Jennings gone, but Martin clearly is one of the top coaches in his role on here.
When you also add in Martin’s recruiting successes, it’s clear the Vols needed him back home, and Jeremy Pruitt did a great job making sure that happened. After a rough end with the USC Trojans, his trajectory should be back on the rise.
