Gruden’s history shows his willingness to work with different types of receivers, including ones who don’t have lots of speed. Remember, he coached Michael Clayton and Antonio Bryant. He also has a history in general of valuing competitive spirit over raw physical abilities. That’s why, as an announcer, he was always a fan of Tim Tebow.
Taking that into account, Jennings is a guy Gruden would love with his intangibles. If the Las Vegas Raiders drafted him, the two would make a great fit. Obviously, Gruden doesn’t mind loud, outspoken receivers after trying to sign Antonio Brown last year, and Jennings would obviously not bring nearly the issues Brown brought.
Finally, there’s the fact that the Raiders are desperate for an elite wide receiver in the NFL Draft. They’ll clearly take a couple of elite guys before they get to Jennings, but there’s no way they should avoid Jennings if it gets to a later round. He could be an amazing steal for Gruden and general manager Mike Mayock.
Should Las Vegas draft him, he will have a fair chance at finding a role in the receiver rotation. Given the confidence we already have in him because of his proven production, that should be enough for us to say this is a great landing spot for the guy.
