Tennessee football: Vols WR Marquez Callaway’s five best NFL Draft landing spots
After just missing out on the Super Bowl, it’s pretty clear that the San Francisco 49ers need to upgrade their passing game. They have their quarterback in Jimmy Garoppolo, but with George Kittle as their leading receiver, some speed with size would be good. That’s even more crucial now that Emmanuel Sanders is gone.

Marquez Callaway is the perfect fit. He’s not as fast as Sanders, but he provides enough speed, and he also brings a level of size that Sanders didn’t bring and Deebo Samuel doesn’t bring. Kyle Shanahan could work wonders with him, as he love to work with big-play receivers who can make great catches and big plays with the ball when they are in open space.
Also, just this past year, an undrafted former Tennessee football player, Emmanuel Moseley, emerged as an elite corner for the 49ers. Taking that into account, there may be a soft spot for unheralded former Vols in the Bay Area, and Callaway could be a guy who benefits from it. If he’s not taken in the NFL Draft, this is certainly a place he could end up anyway.
Now, here’s the real benefit. San Francisco doesn’t have a pick after the first round until the fifth round, so if they don’t take a receiver then, they could get desperate. At that point, Callaway is the perfect fit. On the return side, Richie James has it locked up, but Callaway could give the guy a run for his money. Also, James’ contract is up after 2021. So Callaway could then step in.
