The Seattle Seahawks took Tennessee football edge rusher Darrell Taylor in the second round of the NFL Draft. Watch Pete Carroll call the Volunteers edge.

It’s always an emotional time when players are selected in the NFL Draft, and former Vols edge rusher Darrell Taylor was no different. Taylor was taken by the Seattle Seahawks with the 48th overall pick in the second round.

Seattle traded up to take Taylor, and it was obvious that they had been targeting the 6’4″ 267-pound outside linebacker for a while. Given the way his stock had been rising in recent weeks, that was not entirely surprising.

However, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll made it clear when he called Taylor. Carroll called the former Vol after he was taken in the NFL Draft to congratulate him and welcome him. The conversation was posted to the Seahawks and Vols Twitter account.

Seeing players with their family realizing they get drafted, even in this virtual setting, always makes people happy. Taylor’s setting was  no different. It was clear he and Carroll were mutually excited about the situation.

Carroll made it clear that they were worried about him being taken by somebody else, which is why they traded up to get him. Seattle gave up their other second round pick and their third round pick in order to move up.

Taylor, who is from Virginia, will be heading to the other side of the country to join Seattle in the northwest. However, he also seems to be excited about it, as he posted his own video to talk about joining the franchise.

Honestly, it makes sense for Taylor to be excited about joining the Seahawks, though. Even if they run a 4-3, this is a franchise that has a pretty good history of developing defensive talent and helping them secure big contracts in the future.

As a result, it’s safe to say that Taylor is in a great situation. Being taken so highly in the NFL Draft means the Seahawks are invested in him, and an organization with a great defensive history being invested in you means you have a great chance to succeed. Them trading up to get him only makes them more invested.
