Tennessee football: Elite 2021 Alabama EDGE Dylan Brooks commits to Vols
Jeremy Pruitt scored a recruiting steal for Tennessee football. Four-star edge rusher Dylan Brooks of Roanoke, Ala. chose the Volunteers.
Darrell Taylor was taken in the second round of the NFL Draft Friday night to kick off the weekend for Rocky Top. Well, Tennessee football ended the weekend by picking up another elite edge rusher for the future.
Weakside defensive end Dylan Brooks committed to UT Sunday afternoon. To make matters even more newsworthy, Jeremy Pruitt went right into Alabama to pluck this defensive star away from the Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers.
A four-star on Rivals, Brooks comes out of Handley High School in Roanoke, Ala. That is on the eastern border of the state, about 45 miles north of Auburn. He announced his commitment to Tennessee football on Twitter.

At 6’5″ 220 pounds, Brooks is the No. 3 ranked player at his position and in the state of Alabama, and he is the No. 53 ranked player nationally. However, he is a five-star and top-ranked player at his position and in the state in his 247Sports composite ratings.
Brooks is the second four-star on Rivals to commit to Rocky Top, the fifth player from the state of Alabama and the 11th commitment overall. The other four-star, wide receiver Jordan Mosley, is also from Alabama, which leads all states in terms of commitments for UT’s 2021 class, which is currently ranked No. 12.
With Taylor gone, edge rusher is certainly a position of need for the Vols in the future, as Pruitt has not been satisfied with the depth at that position since he took over. Brooks should definitely be able to help with that lack of depth. Here is a look at his highlight reel.
As you can see, Brooks was recruited with one clear objective: to rush the passer. However, his ability to play off or on the line of scrimmage makes him a perfect fit for Pruitt’s and Derrick Ansley’s 3-4 scheme.
Add in Brooks’ speed, which was on display with his ability to play wide receiver, and he is the perfect pickup for Tennessee football. Pruitt and Ansley hit a home run with this pickup, and getting him right out of Alabama was a huge deal.
