After a huge pickup Sunday, Tennessee football recruiting picked up another 2021 commitment in four-star safety Kamar Wilcoxson out of Bradenton, Fla.

Just as the NFL Draft ends, Tennessee football starts to strike gold on the recruiting trail. After luring a top 100 Alabama edge rusher, Dylan Brooks, away from the Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers on Sunday, the Vols lured a four-star Florida defensive back away from the Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles and Miami Hurricanes on Monday.

Kamar Wilcoxson, a 2021 safety out of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. has now chosen Rocky Top as his future home. A four-star on Rivals, Wilcoxson was initially committed to the Gators but reopened his recruitment at the end of last month.

At 6’2″ 185 pounds, Wilcoxson is a top 250 player nationally, a top 40 player in the state of Florida and the No. 12 ranked player at his position. He announced his commitment with a video on Twitter and finished by saying, “Go Vols.”

With the addition of Wilcoxson, Tennessee football now has 12 commitments for 2021. Three of them are four-stars, and four are defensive backs, although three-star athlete Elijah Howard could be a fifth defensive back. Wilcoxson is the second player out of Florida.

Jeremy Pruitt now once again has the Vols flirting with a top 10 class, as they moved up to No. 11 on Rivals after this commitment. He also helped fill what could be a potential void depending on how the young talent turns out.

Safety is a bit of a position of need this year with the loss of Nigel Warrior, but it could also become an issue next year. After all, Baylen Buchanan and Shawn Shamburger, who can help out at the position will both be gone.

If anything, Pruitt may have to move one of his key safeties over to nickel to offset the losses of Buchanan and Shamburger. Regardles, Wilcoxson’s commitment certainly increases his options there. Here is a look at his highlight reel.

As you can see, he is a physical player who has a great feel for the ball, making him a typical center fielder who could excel at safety. His speed didn’t show up as much on film, but it’s worth noting that it may be due to him missing five weeks of the season.

Wilcox was recruited by Tennessee football defensive coordinator Derrick Ansley, but it’s likely Chris Weinke had a role in securing the commitment, as he was the head coach at IMG Academy from 2010 to 2014. What’s clear, though, is Pruitt’s recruiting connections are now paying off.
