Salter is the 21st commitment overall to the Vols, who have the No. 2 ranked recruiting class across all major services now, albeit being significantly behind the Ohio State Buckeyes. He is the 11th commitment in the class over the past two weeks.

With his commitment, Salter also adds another SEC state to the Vols’ class in Texas. Other states include Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida and South Carolina. That’s the majority of SEC states, and it covers eight of the 14 schools.

At 6’1″ 185 pounds, Salter clocked in a 4.85 40-time before his junior season, according to Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports. He threw for 2,550 yards and ran for 616 while scoring 38 total touchdowns in 2019. Here is a look at his highlight reel.

As you can see, Salter’s mobility is a huge strength, but he also has a huge arm and is pretty accurate on deep passes. Him being able to throw from the pocket is a huge advantage. However, he’s not very tall, and most of his successful throws from the pocket were against three-man rushes with great protection. So he still has a lot to prove.

Given the commitment of five-star Harrison Bailey in 2020 along with Brian Maurer, Kasim Hill, JT Shrout and Jimmy Holiday being on the roster, Salter’s commitment gives Tennessee football options after 2020 when searching to replace Jarrett Guarantano. They have veterans in Hill, big arms in Bailey and Shrout and mobility in Hill, Holiday, Maurer and Salter. So Pruitt is set there.
