Jeremy Pruitt isn’t icing out junior college prospects in Tennessee football’s elite 2021 class. Cornerback De’Jahn Warren will now visit the Volunteers.

In addition to securing a commitment from a Georgia tight end and making the top five for an in-state four-star wide receiver, Jeremy Pruitt gained some momentum on the junior college front Monday. Elite JuCo prospect De’Jahn Warren announced he will take a visit to Tennessee football later in the year.

Warren, a four-star cornerback on Rivals, is the No. 1 ranked junior college prospect for 2021 on 247Sports. Currently playing at Lackawanna Community College in Scranton, Pa., he initially came out of Suitland High School in Hyattsville, Md. back in 2019.

The date for the visit with Tennessee football will be Dec. 4. Other visits during the season will be to the Penn State Nittany Lions on Sept. 26, the Oklahoma Sooners on Nov. 20 and the Georgia Bulldogs on Dec. 11. Warren will actually be committing on Dec. 14. He announced his UT visit and his commitment date on Twitter.

At 6’0″ 185 pounds, Warren has burst onto the scene on the junior college front. He would be a great addition to Rocky Top and would likely immediately fill a void. After all, it’s hard to see both Bryce Thompson and Alontae Taylor returning for their senior seasons after this year. There’s a chance neither of them comes back.

As a result, a junior college guy like Warren would be a huge pickup. Pruitt currently has five defensive backs committed for 2021, six if you count athlete Elijah Howard, but only one of them, Kamar Wilcoxson, has at least a four-star rating across all major services, and he plays safety. UT picked up two four-star defensive backs in 2020.

Simply put, Pruitt clearly needs a bit more help on that front going forward, and he deserves a ton of credit for thinking ahead given what Taylor and Thompson might do. Going after a guy like Warren is the perfect way to offset that.

Currently, Penn State is the overwhelming favorite to land Warren. They are unanimous favorites on the Rivals Future Cast and 247Sports Crystal Ball and a majority favorite on the Rivals Fan Future Cast. However, don’t sleep on Tennessee football. By promoting Joe Osovet, who coached in the junior college ranks in the northeast for decades, the Vols could make a push.
