Jeremy Pruitt and Tennessee football made the cut for a four-star wide receiver. Quenton Barnes Jr. of Nashville, Tenn. has the Volunteers in his top five.

As tight end Miles Campbell made all the news with his commitment to Tennessee football on Monday, Jeremy Pruitt and the Vols were still building momentum elsewhere. They simply can’t be stopped right now.

Rocky Top made the top five for an elite 2021 in-state wide receiver. Quenton Barnes Jr., a four-star on Rivals out of Cane Ridge High School in Nashville, Tenn., released his top five with the Vols in it Monday afternoon.

Barnes is the No. 42 ranked receiver overall and the No. 7 ranked player from within the state. Joining Tennessee football in his top five were the Florida Gators, Ole Miss Rebels, Texas A&M Aggies and LSU Tigers. He released his list on Twitter.

Receiver has been a priority for Pruitt over the past two classes. With Jauan Jennings, Marquez Callaway and Tyler Byrd gone, Jordan Murphy and Jerrod Means transferring and Josh Palmer and Brandon Johnson set to be seniors, it was always clear the Vols would have to reload there before this past signing class. After all, Ramel Keyton was their only elite commitment there in 2019.

Well, Pruitt responded by securing three four-star receivers in his 2020 class along with a three-star athlete who could play receiver, and this year he’s already got three receivers, two of whom are four-stars, committed along with an athlete who could play the position.

So the Vols now have anywhere from six to eight receivers coming in over the next two years, five of whom are four-stars. At 6’3″ 180 pounds, Barnes would be a great addition to that group. Getting him would definitely signify that Pruitt is turning Rocky Top back into Wide Receiver U as well, finally wrestling the title away from the Clemson Tigers.

Currently, there are no predictions for Barnes in the Rivals Future Cast or the 247Sports Crystal Ball. The Rivals Fan Future Cast has Tennessee football as a favorite by a slight majority to land him, but that’s meaningless. Still, UT making the top five for a prospect from Nashville is always a good sign on Rocky Top. They should have a great chance to land him.
