Colorado tight end Terrance Ferguson has the Tennessee football Volunteers in his top five.

On the same day Jeremy Pruitt secured potentially his second tight end of the week and third tight end of the Vols’ 2021 class, Tennessee football recruiting began trending for another tight end. This one comes from Colorado and is more highly touted.

Terrance Ferguson now has the Vols in his top five. A four-star on Rivals, Ferguson comes out of Heritage High School in Littleton, Colo. He is rated as a three-star on 247Sports but is still a four-star on 247Sports Composite.

In addition to Tennessee football, Ferguson had the Auburn Tigers, Oregon Ducks, USC Trojans and Wisconsin Badgers leading for him. So he comes from Pac-12 country and has two candidates from the Pac-12, two from the SEC and one from the Big Ten but no school from Colorado.  He announced his list Friday afternoon on Twitter.

More from Vols Football

At 6’5″ 220 pounds, Ferguson is more of a receiving tight end. In fact, he lists himself as both a wide receiver and a tight end on Twitter. However, he could definitely become more of a blocking tight end if he puts on weight.

Ferguson is only 10 pounds lighter than Miles Campbell, but he is over 10 pounds heavier than Roc Taylor. Both of those guys are tight ends already committed to the Vols for 2021. Now, all the tight ends currently on the roster are in the 245-pound or above range, and Trinity Bell, a defensive end and tight end who committed three days after Campbell, does stand at 6’7″ 250 pound.

So if Ferguson does commit to the Vols, it would be intriguing to see how Pruitt and Jim Chaney use him. Pruitt has valued more physical tight ends, but Chaney has a history of valuing tight ends in the passing game.

Right now, there are no favorites to land Ferguson on the Rivals Future Cast or the 247Sports Crystal Ball. However, the Iowa Hawkeyes are the favorites to land him on the Rivals Fan Future Cast by a plurality, and they didn’t make the cut. Simply put, Tennessee football is as much in play as anybody to land Ferguson.
