Tennessee football makes cut for 2021 four-star CB Isaiah Johnson
A West Virginia cornerback is eyeing the Tennessee football Volunteers.
Jeremy Pruitt has a pretty good track record recruiting for 2021 and finding talent in the state of West Virginia. As a result, it can only be good news for Tennessee football when the Vols are on the radar for an elite player from that state.
Rocky Top made the top eight for defensive back Isaiah Johnson. A four-star on Rivals, Johnson comes out of Bluefield High School in Bluefield, W. Va. He is ranked a top 100 player nationally, the No. 8 player at his position and the No. 1 player in his home state.
In addition to Tennessee football, Johnson had the LSU Tigers, West Virginia Mountaineers, Georgia Bulldogs, Oklahoma Sooners, Texas A&M Aggies, Texas Longhorns and USC Trojans on his list. He announced the schools on Twitter.

The first unanimous five-star pickup for the Vols under Pruitt was a prospect from West Virginia in Darnell Wright of Huntington, who was part of the 2019 class and became a starter at right tackle as a freshman. So UT already has a solid history of recruiting there.
On top of that, Rocky Top has the No. 2 ranked class for 2021, and it’s well-documented how well they’ve done on the recruiting trail over the past month and a half. Simply put, there are reasons for encouragement in Big Orange Country.
At 6’1″ 174 pounds, Johnson has the right height to play cornerback in the SEC. He’ll need to put on some size, but that will come with time. Playing for Pruitt and Derrick Ansley, two secondary specialists, will also help him thrive.
Johnson would also join a class that already has five commitments at defensive back plus two athletes, Elijah Howard and Kaemen Marley. Given the fact that Bryce Thompson and Alontae Taylor could both leave after this year for the pros, though, Pruitt needs to do what he can to reload the position quickly.
Currently, LSU is a unanimous favorite to land him on the Rivals Future Cast. However, West Virginia is a plurality favorite to land him on the Rivals Fan Future Cast, and nobody is leading on the 247Sports Crystal Ball. Simply put, there’s a wide open race to land him, and Tennessee football has a great chance to be in the mix.
