Tennessee football’s top 10 NFL WRs of all time
Teams played for:
- San Diego Chargers, 1988-1993
- Denver Broncos, 1994-1996
- Dallas Cowboys, 1997
This is a case of being a much more successful pro player than college player. Anthony Miller was a junior college transfer to Tennessee football on the heels of their 1985 SEC Championship season, when they had been re-established as a nationally prominent program under Johnny Majors. That year, he had 36 passes for 667 yards and five touchdowns.

In 1987, Miller was set to be the go-to receiver, but the 5’11” 190-pound receiver was hurt most of the season and didn’t even reach 100 yards. If he stayed healthy, the Vols likely would have gone 13-0. They went 10-2-1 without him thanks to Jeff Francis and Reggie Cobb in the backfield. Anyway, Miller still had raw talent, so he was a first-round draft pick.
Immediately, Miller became a star with the San Diego Chargers. He had 10 touchdowns and over 1,200 yards his second year there. Hs final two years with San Diego and his firs two years in Denver were a stretch of four straight seasons in which he went over 1,000 yards, and he stayed productive even in his last year with the Dallas Cowboys.
Injuries and age kept Miller from being re-signed after 1997. However, he had made five Pro Bowls in 10 years by that point, and he finished his career with 595 receptions for 9,148 yards and 63 touchdowns. He also had a rushing touchdown and two kickoff returns for touchdowns, one each of his first two years. So he’s one of the top pro producers ever from UT.
