Tennessee football 2021 QB to compete in Elite 11 Finals
The 2021 Tennessee football Volunteers quarterback will compete in the Elite 11 Finals.
Dual-threat quarterback Kaidon Salter of Cedar Hill High School in Cedar Hill, Texas committed to Jeremy Pruitt and the 2021 Tennessee football recruiting class on May 10. On Friday, he ended up making more news.
Salter will be among 20 quarterbacks competing in the Elite 11 Finals, which will be held June 29 through July 1 in Murfreesboro, Tenn. A top 12 player at his position and top 60 player in Texas on Rivals, Salter is listed as a three-star on that service but a four-star on 247Sports Composite.
At 6’1″ 185 pounds, Salter’s commitment brought a lot of hype to Tennessee football. He now takes it to another level with this event. The Elite 11 Twitter account announced the news that he would be one of the quarterbacks with its list Friday afternoon.

With this decision, Salter is the third UT quarterback commitment in three years to receive an invitation to the prestigious event. Five-star 2020 commitment Harrison Bailey went in 2019, and three-star 2019 commitment Brian Maurer went in 2018. Jarrett Guarantano, who was in the 2016 class, also went back in 2015.
Simply put, the Vols have been bringing in lots of quarterbacks who have been able to compete in this event in recent years, dating back to when Butch Jones was recruiting for the program. Pruitt has taken it to another level, though, with his ability to secure commitments who received such an invitation in three straight years.
With his arrival, Salter will help the Vols create a wide-open race for the starting quarterback position entering 2021. This is Guarantano’s last year, and while he’s not 100 percent certain to be the starter in 2020, he is the overwhelming favorite.
If Guarantano loses his job to Bailey, that could change things for 2021. However, if he remains the starter all year, then Tennessee football’s competition next year could include Salter, Bailey, Kasim Hill, J.T. Shrout, Brian Maurer and even Jimmy Holiday. And given how fast his stock is rising, Salter may have a chance to win that job.
