Four-star Kamar Wilcoxson flips from Tennessee football to Florida
The defensive back flipped from the Tennessee football Volunteers to the Florida Gators.
It looks like Tennessee football has lost a major commitment for its 2021 class back to its rival. Kamar Wilcoxson had initially flipped his commitment from the Florida Gators to the Vols back in April. However, he has now committed back to Florida.
A four-star defensive back on Rivals out of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., Wilcoxson is a top 250 player nationally with his 6’2″ 185-pound frame. He is the No. 14 ranked player at his position and the No. 38 player within the state of Florida.
Wilcoxson’s decommitment comes three days after the news that he would be playing in the Under Armour All-American game. He announced his decision to flip his commitment on Twitter Friday evening.
This was a pretty big shock given how things played out. Wilcoxson got into a Twitter spat with a Florida coach who commented on his decision to initially flip to UT. We wrote about that dispute here when it happened.

Without Wilcoxson, the Vols take a bit of a hit to their elite recruiting class. It’s still a top five class, remaining at No. 2 on Rivals. There are now 23 commitments to the 2020 class, the same number as earlier in the week before four-star in-state tight end Hudson Wolfe committed.
UT still has another former Florida commitment in four-star linebacker Terrence Lewis of Hollywood, Fla. Also, the Vols have three other defensive backs committed plus two athletes, and they have 10 four-stars committed still for 2021.
Simply put, the class is still in very good shape. However, Wilcoxson is a big loss. He was highly rated for a reason and brought a lot of size to the position. Pruitt will have to work to make sure his secondary doesn’t avoid a drop-off after this year, with two senior nickel backs and both starting cornerbacks, Alontae Taylor and Bryce Thompson, potentially leaving early.
Without Wilcoxson, Tennessee football is going to have a harder time offsetting that. Pruitt is likely going to be able to do it, though, and there is still plenty of recruiting left to do. So while the loss hurts Rocky Top, Vol Nation can recover.
