JuCo defensive back De’Jahn Warren put the Tennessee football Volunteers in his top seven.

He’s already got a top five class loaded with talent, but Jeremy Pruitt is still looking for immediate help in the 2021 Tennessee football recruiting class. He may be a step closer to getting that after making the cut for an elite junior college prospect.

The Vols made the top seven for defensive back De’Jahn Warren. A four-star on Rivals, Warren is the highest-ranked junior college secondary player on 247Sports Composite and the No. 2 ranked junior college player overall.

In addition to Tennessee football, Warren is eyeing the Penn State Nittany Lions, Maryland Terrapins, Alabama Crimson Tide, Oklahoma Sooners, Georgia Bulldogs and Florida State Seminoles. He announced his list on twitter.

At 6’0″ 185 pounds, Warren is entering his second year as an enrollee of Lackawanna Community College in Scranton, Pa. Playing in Pennsylvania could give Penn State an advantage. He is also a graduate of Suitland High School in Hyattsville, Md., which could give the Terps an advantage.

Taking that into account, UT will have an uphill climb to land him. However, he could be a necessary addition. Warren is listed as a cornerback across all services, and with Bryce Thompson and Alontae Taylor both entering their junior years, Pruitt may need help there next year. After all, Thompson could definitely leave early for the pros.

Currently, there are three defensive backs committed to Rocky Top’s 2021 class, all three-stars, in Jay Jones, Edwin White and De’Shawn Rucker. Athletes Elijah Howard and Kaemen Marley, a three-star and four-star respectively, could also play defensive back.

We should also note that the 2020 class had four-stars Keshawn Lawrence and Doneiko Slaughter, and Warren Burrell and Tyus Fields are rising stars. So there are bodies in the secondary, but Pruitt will have to deal with lots of unknowns next year.

As a result, Warren would be a great pickup for Tennessee football. Currently, Penn State is the unanimous favorite to land him on the Rivals Future Cast and 247Sports Crystal Ball and a majority favorite on the Rivals Fan Future Cast. So Pruitt has work to do to get him to Knoxville. However, he also has a need for a guy like Warren and lots to sell him on.
