The defensive back has the Tennessee football Volunteers in his top 10.

A day after making the cut for an elite 2021 junior college defensive back, Tennessee football made the cut for a top-notch 2022 Florida defensive back. Simply put, Jeremy Pruitt is clearly heavily committed to going after secondary players right now.

Jaheim Singletary, a five-star on Rivals out of Robert E Lee High School in Jacksonville, Fla., had the Vols in his top 10 on Monday. Listed as a cornerback across all major recruiting services, Singletary stands at 6’1″ 170 pounds.

Joining Tennessee football were the Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs, Clemson Tigers, LSU Tigers, Oklahoma Sooners, Texas Longhorns, USC Trojans and Arizona State Sun Devils. Singletary announced his list on Twitter.

More from Vols Football

Although there is a chance Bryce Thompson and Alontae Taylor could be gone by 2021, they will certainly be gone by 2022 if they don’t leave early for the pros. As a result, cornerback is a crucial position for the Vols.

Warren Burrell and Tyus Fields could be the future at that position, but there aren’t many players locked in specifically at cornerback who can help the Vols for the future right now. Safety is a different story, particularly with the way Pruitt recruited the past two years.

Because of this, Singletary would be a great pickup for the Vols. Given the high rating he already has, he’d likely be a great pickup anyway. But he could fill a huge need and potentially become a starter immediately. Hey, that’s what both Thompson and Taylor did in 2018.

As of right now, Florida is the unanimous favorite to land Singletary on the Rivals Future Cast. However, there are no 247Sports Crystal Ball projections. They are the favorite by a plurality on the Rivals Fan Future Cast.

Taking all of that into account, it’s clearly early enough in the process for Tennessee football to gain some momentum with the elite prospect. Pruitt has established some solid connections into the state, and he will want to use those to his advantage as much as possible when targeting Singletary. So don’t count out UT just yet.
