The 2021 Gainesville, Ga. prospect has the Tennessee football Volunteers in his top five.
Monday was a red-hot day for Tennessee football staying on the list of multiple recruits’ top schools, although Jeremy Pruitt didn’t pick up any commitments. They were all for a particular type of athlete, and that continued into the evening.
Rocky Top made the top five for Georgia athlete Christian Charles. List at 6’1″ 180 pounds, Charles plays quarterback in high school and refers to himself as a quarterback and athlete on Twitter. However, he was referred to as a cornerback by Ryan Callahan of GoVols247.
A three-star on Rivals, Charles is not yet rated on 247Sports. Joining Tennessee football in his top five were the Oklahoma Sooners, Virginia Tech Hokies, Vanderbilt Commodores and Arkansas State Red Wolves. He announced his list on Twitter.

Coming out of Chestatee High School in Gainesville, Ga., Charles is a bit of an unknown commodity given his status as an athlete and a guy not yet rated on multiple services. However, it’s a safe bet that he will likely be used at defensive back. After all, UT is already super-loaded at quarterback.
Callahan noted that Charles said the Vols are clearly recruiting him to play defensive back. There’s a chance that his status as an athlete is what’s keeping him from having a high rating at that position, as all signs indicate to UT pursuing the 2021 prospect heavily.
After making the cut for two other defensive backs Monday before Charles, it’s clear that this is an area where Pruitt is now putting his focus. Given the fact that Shawn Shamburger and Baylen Buchanan are seniors and Bryce Thompson and Alontae Taylor could potentially leave after this year, it makes sense for Pruitt to do that.
As of right now, there are no favorites to land Charles on the Rivals Future Cast or the 247Sports Crystal Ball. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets were the favorite by a majority on the Rivals Fan Future Cast, but they didn’t make the cut. Because of that, Tennessee football is definitely in play, and Charles appears to be an overlooked prospect. So keep an eye on what happens with him.
