The Cochran, Ga. offensive lineman has the Tennessee football Volunteers in his top six.

If there’s one area where Tennessee football could still improve its top five 2021 recruiting class, offensive line is that area. On Wednesday, Jeremy Pruitt may have gotten one step close to being able to pull that off.

Rocky Top made the top six for 2021 prospect Amarius Mims. A 6’7″ 300-pound offensive tackle out of Bleckley County High School in Cochran, Ga., Mims is a five-star on Rivals, the No. 2 ranked player nationally and the No. 1 ranked player at his position and in the state of Georgia.

Joining Tennessee football in Mims’ top six were the the Georgia Bulldogs, Florida State Seminoles, Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers and Oklahoma Sooners. So it’s just SEC schools and Oklahoma. He announced his list on Twitter.

More from Vols Football

Currently, the Vols only have one offensive lineman committed for 2021, three-star Colby Smith out of Wentworth, N.C., who committed back in May. As a result, Pruitt and his staff could clearly use more help here.

Of course, recruiting up front in 2019 and 2020 was at an extremely high level for the Vols, and they have given themselves some breathing room. However, you always have to rebuild your line, as Vol fans found out in 2014 after no lineman was signed in the 2012 class.

UT does have three commitments from the state of Georgia already, and Pruitt has worked hard to establish a pipeline there since taking over. Stealing Mims out of there would be a huge story and only further that pipeline.

This will be difficult, though. Georgia is a unanimous favorite to land Mims on the 247Sports Crystal Ball and the Rivals Future Cast. They are a majority favorite on the Rivals Fan Future Cast. As a result, Tennessee football has an uphill battle to climb to land him. However, making this cut is reason enough for them to keep pushing. Pruitt just might get another steal.
