The St. Augustine, Fla. defensive tackle had the Tennessee football Volunteers in his top 10.

Continuing his aggressive recruiting into the state of Florida, Jeremy Pruitt got Tennessee football trending for another prospect from there on Wednesday. This time, the player comes from the trenches, always a crucial part of recruiting.

Rocky Top is in the top 10 for defensive tackle Luther McCoy. A three-star on Rivals, McCoy stands at 6’4″ 280 pounds and comes out of Creekside High School in Fruit Cove, Fla., while his hometown is Saint Augustine, Fla., both of which are in Saint Johns County in the northeastern portion of the state.

Joining Tennessee football in his top 10 were the Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, South Carolina Gamecocks, N.C. State Wolfpack, Duke Blue Devils, Baylor Bears, Penn State Nittany Lions, Nebraska Cornhuskers and Minnesota Golden Gophers. McCoy announced his list on Twitter.

More from Vols Football

As of right now, the Vols have three players committed from the state of Florida, all of whom are defensive players in three-star defensive end Darrell Jackson, three-star defensive back De’Shawn Rucker and four-star linebacker Terrence Lewis. There was four-star safety Kamar Wilcoxson, who flipped from Florida to UT and back to Florida. But that was a bizarre case.

Anyway, McCoy would add to that. He would also add to a class of defensive tackles that includes three-star Isaac Washington and four-star KaTron Evans. So he’s made sure to secure a solid class there for 2021 already.

After four-stars Omari Thomas and Dominic Bailey committed to the 2020 class, Pruitt has done a good job preparing that position for the departure of four seniors after this season. Still, he could always use more help up front, and McCoy would likely be able to provide that help.

Currently, there are no favorites to land McCoy on the Rivals Future Cast or the 247Sports Crystal Ball. Nebraska is the favorite in the Rivals Fan Future Cast, but that’s unscientific, and it’s only by a plurality. Taking that into account, Tennessee football is very much in play for this guy. As a result, keep an eye on him. He could provide real value to this already top five class.
