The Tennessee football Volunteers linebacker adds the Bronko Nagurski Trophy to his group of preseason watch lists.

Preseason watch lists just keep having Henry To’o To’o’s name. One day after the Tennessee football sophomore’s name was on the Butkus Award preseason watch list for the nation’s best linebacker, he made another preseason watch list for the nation’s best defensive player.

To’o To’o was named by the Football Writers Association of America to the 2020 Bronko Nagurski Trophy preseason watch list. There were 98 overall players on the list for the award, which is given annually to the nation’s best defensive player.

This is the third watch list To’o To’o was on overall, as he was also named to the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list last week, which is presented by the Maxwell Football Club to the nation’s best defensive player. Simply put, he is a rising star for Tennessee football whose potential is becoming harder and harder to overlook.

We’ve talked at length about all the reasons for the hype behind To’o To’o. After committing to the Vols on National Signing Day in 2019 out of California, he was inserted into the starting lineup at inside linebacker as the defensive play-caller in the opener against the Georgia State Panthers due to an injury to Daniel Bituli.

Because of his youth, To’o To’o wasn’t ready, a huge reason for UT’s 0-2 start. However, as Bituli returned, the team improved dramatically, and To’o To’o improved with them. By the end of the year, he had earned a spot on the All-SEC Freshman team and numerous Freshman All-American teams as a top producer.

That all leads to the expectations behind To’o To’o entering this year, as he figures to be the feature linebacker with the departure of Bituli. With him being on another key preseason watch list, he’s got a lot to live up to as well. Tennessee football will clearly be depending on him heavily in Jeremy Pruitt’s third season.
