Is Tennessee football bringing back striped pants?
A video suggests the Tennessee football Volunteers are bringing back a uniform combination.
Is tradition being restored when it comes to uniforms Jeremy Pruitt already talked earlier this year about the possibility of Tennessee football bringing out the black jerseys once again at some point this upcoming season.
However, a video released by the UT football program’s official Twitter page hinted that something else may be coming back as well. This fashion decision takes the Vols back to the days of when they were sponsored by Adidas.
Yes, the official Tennessee football Twitter page tweeted a promo video that showed striped pants on Thursday. The pants were white pants with two oranges stripes on each side, which was a staple of the program for years.

From 2006 to 2014, the stripes on the side were a staple of the Vols. Even during the few times they wore orange pants, they had white stripes. However, the program switched its sponsorship from Adidas to Nike back in 2015.
Under Butch Jones, the Vols had checkerboards going down the side of their pants in 2015, 2016 and 2017. When Pruitt took over, however, they went to plain white pants, although they did wear plain orange pants three times in 2019.
The stripes, for people who want more history, were unveiled in 2006 as a way to reinsert energy back into the program. UT was coming off its first losing season in 17 years at the time and had rehired David Cutcliffe as offensive coordinator.
They unveiled those pants in the opener against the Cal Golden Bears, who were in the top 10 at the time, and jumped out to a 35-0 lead, winning 35-18, despite being underdogs in the game. At the time, striped pants had not been a part of the program for 10 years. The Vols abandoned them in 1996 and wore plain white pants through 2005.
In 2002, Tennessee football had a thick, solid orange stripe going down the side of the pants. But the Vols went 8-5 and had what was then their first unranked finish since 1988. It’s crazy to think how the program viewed such a record back then. Anyway, they abandoned those after a year.
