Georgia 2021 offensive lineman Amarius Mims is still high on the Tennessee football Volunteers.

Back on July 15, five-star offensive lineman Amarius Mims put Tennessee football in his top six along with the Georgia Bulldogs, Florida State Seminoles, Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers and Oklahoma Sooners. He had also moved his commitment date up from Oct. 14 to Aug. 15.

Well, in an interview he did with Chad Simmons of Rivals, Mims has changed his commitment date again, and he is now down to a top five. His commitment date is back to Oct. 14, which is also his birthday.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma was removed from his top six. As a result, Tennessee football is still in play for the 6’7″ 300-pound offensive tackle out of Bleckley County High School in Cochran, Ga., which is great news for Jeremy Pruitt and his staff.

More from Vols Football

As of right now, the Vols’ only commitment for 2021 is three-star offensive lineman of Colby Smith of Wentworth, N.C. They are targeting other prospects from North Carolina as well, but Georgia is obviously Pruitt’s strongest pipeline, and he needs to bolster this class.

Despite a loaded class in 2019 and a solid class in 2020, Pruitt and Jim Chaney need to make sure they avoid the mistake Derek Dooley made in 2012, when he didn’t sign an offensive lineman. For all Butch Jones’ faults, that was something that cost him dearly in 2014 and wasn’t his fault.

Adding a guy like Mims would be a giant boost to this offensive line class and help cement its status as a top five overall class. Also, the Vols still haven’t picked up a five-star on Rivals yet among their 23 commitments, so Mims would be a huge get in numerous ways.

However, while Tennessee football made another cut and Mims pushed back his commitment date, picking him up will still be difficult. The Rivals Fan Cast and 247Sports Crystal Ball all have UGA as a unanimous favorite to land him. Still, Mims’ constant changing of dates means he appears unsure of things, so he could be more unpredictable than people initially thought.
