Derek Barnett, Malik Jackson

When it comes to numbers, the Philadelphia Eagles are tied with the Las Vegas Raiders and Detroit Lion with just two players. However, both players are expected to be highly productive, and they’ll be starting next to each other on the defensive line. As a result, Philly is ahead of the Pittsburgh Steelers, although it’s clear the Pennsylvania teams love Tennessee football players.

This duo was supposed to take off last year. However, Derek Barnett was coming off a season-ending injury from the year before, so he wasn’t himself, and Malik Jackson then suffered a season-ending injury in the opener last year. With Jackson back though and Barnett back to normal, both players should be able to explode next to each other.

We know what Jackson can do at defensive tackle. His play was critical to that Denver Broncos Super Bowl with Peyton Manning in 2015. Barnett is a proven sacks machine as well, though, and the one thing he needs is an elite defensive tackle to get the push up front. Jackson being back will provide that, and these two could become not just starters but stars next to each other.

Of course, Jackson will have to get back to where he was coming off an injury the way Barnett did last year. However, Barnett is still in better shape with him on the line. Both players are also under contract with Philly through 2021, so if they make it through this season fully healthy, watch out for what they can do together that year.
