Tennessee football: Ranking every 2020 game by difficulty
2. Oct. 24 – Alabama Crimson Tide
What? The Alabama Crimson Tide aren’t the toughest game for Tennessee football this year? Well, no, but it’s not like they aren’t going to be as tough for the Vols as they always are. This is just about another team even being tougher. Simply put, we’re now in the realm of circled losses for the Vols regardless of what they do in Jeremy Pruitt’s third season.

Alabama heads to Knoxville just after UT faces the Kentucky Wildcats. Right after that, the Vols will be heading into a bye week. However, the importance of the Kentucky game could make for a bit of a hangover, yes, a hangover, against Alabama, making the Tide even more difficult. Rocky Top will already be massively outmatched in every way possible.
If one thing works in their favor, the Tide will be facing the Georgia Bulldogs the week before. As a result, they could have their own hangover in the game, but if hangovers are canceled out, Alabama is still 1,000 times better than the Vols and would win in a blowout. Simply put, UT is in trouble here regardless of what happens the week before.
After this game, as we said, the Vols have a bye. However, Alabama hosts the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Despite Mike Leach’s presence, that doesn’t make this much of a trap game for Pruitt’s former boss, Nick Saban. So it’s hard to point to any way the Vols could steal this one. That puts this game at No. 2 on our list.
