Tennessee football: Top 10 players Vol have to face in 2020
Junior; Frisco, Texas
Although Tennessee football is expected to be a heavy favorite against the Missouri Tigers next week, Nick Bolton is another linebacker they have to be ready for. In fact, shockingly, he’s one of the best players the Vols will face all year. If they aren’t careful, his elite skills alone could result in Rocky Top suffering a major upset to Eliah Drinkwitz in Knoxville.

A 6’0″ 232-pound graduate of Lone Star High School, Bolton is a Preseason All-American. He really emerged after an injury to Cale Garrett, and he registered 103 tackles, 74 of which were solo, eight and a half tackles for a loss, a sack, two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown, and seven pass deflections.
So as you can see, this guy is elite in coverage, and he’s dangerous as a tackler. He’s the complete linebacker and a coach’s dream. Against the Vols, he had 10 tackles, six of which were solo, and two pass deflections. UT contained him better than lots of other schools, but he was still an unstoppable forced and managed to be in on so many plays.
This year, despite a coaching change, Bolton should take a major step forward. He did all of that in 2019 as a sophomore, and Mizzou is keeping on defensive coordinator Ryan Walters. As a result, Bolton, who was the SEC’s top graded linebacker by Pro Football Focus, should be a major force once again, and he could give the Vols serious trouble.
