2. The Vols will have a winning record on the road.

If Tennessee football fulfills the previous prediction and beats the Auburn Tigers, it will have a much easier path to this accomplishment. However, even without a win at Auburn, Jeremy Pruitt’s third team on Rocky Top has a clearer path to a winning record on the road than it has ever since he has taken over, especially with the Oklahoma Sooners off the schedule.

By the way, we should note that the Vols did finish .500 on the road last year and 3-2 away from home. This year, they should be better, and their road schedule gets, surprisingly, easier, even if the schedule gets harder. Okay, so there’s one clear-cut loss that we can write off immediately. There’s no way Rocky Top beats the Georgia Bulldogs on the road.

However, there are two games on the road that could be circled wins for the Vols as well. They face the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Vanderbilt Commodores, the two teams projected to be the worst in the SEC. They’ll likely be heavily favored in both of those games, which already sets them at two of their five road games being wins.

This leaves Auburn and the South Carolina Gamecocks. We give this team a 50 percent chance to upset Auburn already, and they’re favored at USC. As a result, they’ll win at least one of those games and finish with a 3-2 record. Given limited capacity in the stadiums this year, road games won’t mean that much this year anyway.
