Tennessee football in top half of SEC Power Rankings after Week 4
Defeated LSU Tigers 44-34
Even with the longest winning streak in the Power Five, Tennessee football fans probably still wish they had gone ahead and hired Mike Leach three years ago. The guy just made the biggest splash ever in an SEC debut.

Leach’s air raid took off with K.J. Costello throwing for 623 yards and five touchdowns in his opener against the defending national champion LSU Tigers. Now, they did have three turnovers and only nine rushing yards, but who cares? They beat LSU by double-digits and put the world on notice that they’re ready to make an impact in the league.
Although we tried our best not to go on last year’s records, you can’t ignore beating the team that just went 15-0 and won it all. As a result, for now, we have no choice but to put the Mississippi State Bulldogs at No. 1 in our SEC Power Rankings.
Is this legitimate? Well, we’ll find out soon enough. However, MSU has a chance to get off to a great start with the Arkansas Razorbacks and Kentucky Wildcats both up next. They then play the Texas A&M Aggies, but A&M just struggled with the Vanderbilt Commodores, so these guys could be 4-0 before facing the Alabama Crimson Tide.
How fun would that be for everybody to watch? All of a sudden, Tennessee football may have gotten a break drawing A&M and the Auburn Tigers instead of Mississippi State. We’ll need to know more before standing by that, but this first week was quite impressive.
