Tennessee Football: Five Vols to watch for at Georgia
6’4″ 230 pounds; Hometown: Lodi, N.J.
Despite leading the UT offense en route to a 2-0 start this season, questions still remain about Jarrett Guarantano’s accuracy and dependency as a signal-caller in big games. There’s no questioning his toughness under pressure or the improvements made to his decision making, but the Georgia Bulldogs defense will be his biggest challenge yet.

This week will decide whether Guarantano can be counted on this year or if he’s just a pretender. Possibly one of the more impressive and less talked about feats for the senior quarterback has been no turnovers through two weeks. Through two weeks last season, Guarantano had already thrown two interceptions, one in each game against Georgia State and BYU.
Getting set to face him this week is a Bulldogs defense that has already accumulated four picks through its first two games. Refraining from being careless with the football is crucial in this week’s matchup.
Both of Georgia’s previous opponents, the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Auburn Tigers, found more success throwing the ball than carrying it. In two games, UGA has allowed 280 yards through the air compared to just 116 yards rushing.
While Tennessee football has been effective running the ball, more pressure will be on Guarantano’s shoulders if they can’t get the ground-game going. He’s been an asset in the short running game when called upon for quarterback sneaks. Guarantano will need to be smart with the ball and continue to be a leader to get the Vols to 3-0. Look for him to show out this weekend.
