Pick Analysis. 1. player. 839. Scouting Report. Offensive Lineman. Junior. Cade Mays

6’6″ 320 pounds; Hometown, Knoxville, Tenn.

It’s not often you find an offensive lineman on a list of players to watch for, let alone two, but if you know the Cade Mays story, you wouldn’t expect anyone else at this No. 1 spot. Just last season, Sanford Stadium was home turf to the former five-star U.S. Army All-American.

Now, after transferring back home to play football with his brother Cooper Mays, Cade Mays will enter the field from the visitor’s locker room wearing orange and white. Mays’ unique position surrounding this game isn’t the only reason he’s listed as Tennessee football’s most important player this week.

Given his versatility he’s an essential piece in providing quarterback Jarrett Guarantano time to throw and opening lanes for Ty Chandler and Eric Gray to run. Last season, Mays worked alongside linemen like Andrew Thomas, Isaiah Wilson, and Solomon Kindley, all of whom are now on NFL rosters. Now he’s playing alongside Trey Smith, a first-round NFL Draft prospect.

Mays himself is eligible for the NFL draft following this season with a few mock drafts projecting him to go as high as the first round as well. He’ll have no shortage of talent beside him to impress scouts this season, sharing a line of scrimmage with former five-star sophomores Wanya Morris and Darnell Wright, as well as the aforementioned Trey Smith.

Against Missouri, Tennessee football fans caught a glimpse of what they’ve been missing from the homegrown former Vol-commit. When the Vols roll into Georgia, expect Mays to improve upon his performance and break apart his former team. Offensive success begins and ends with the offensive line group. Mays is one of if not the most integral part of the unit.
