Receivers

Josh Palmer and Brandon Johnson continue to make great catches for Tennessee football. They’re even better when Jarrett Guarantano’s accuracy is on. Jalin Hyatt, meanwhile, appears to have arrived, and even Velus Jones Jr. is able to make plays in the passing game despite being added primarily as a specialist. However, things are about to get much tougher.

More from All for Tennessee

The Georgia Bulldogs have too elite of a secondary, and the Vols still haven’t found any passing threat among their tight ends yet. Princeton Fant has only caught one ball. Last weekend, the passing game wasn’t needed as much, as Guarantano had only 190 yards, but at some point, it will be, and it’s getting a bit overhyped right now having not played an elite secondary.

Offensive play-calling

Jim Chaney has called basically a perfect game for two straight weeks. Chaney is a great offensive coordinator and deserves all the respect he can get. Jeremy Pruitt was smart to hire him. However, this won’t last. A noted weakness of Chaney’s is the lack of in-game adjustments, and he simply hasn’t had to do that yet, as neither team really adjusted.

It’s a different story when it comes to the the Georgia Bulldogs, though, and even the Kentucky Wildcats. Kirby Smart and Mark Stoops are defensive specialists who don’t have the personnel issues Will Muschamp had, so they can mix things up. After those two games, the Vols face the Alabama Crimson Tide. As a result, Chaney is about to be tested much more.
