George Pickens had all the preseason hype at receiver for the Georgia Bulldogs, but he was more of a wideout to begin with. With Tennessee football moving Bryce Thompson back to cornerback and Alontae Taylor playing his best ball right now on the other side, Pickens shouldn’t be as much of a concern for the Vols.

However, Stetson Bennett, like Jarrett Guarantano, has issues of accuracy, so a receiver has to be key. The other guy, Kearis Jackson, will be that key receiver. Jackson is the leading receiver for the Dawgs through two games, as he has 15 catches for 209 yards. Although Pickens has two touchdowns to Jackson’s none, Jackson has been the elite weapon through two games.

Meanwhile, the Vols’ pass defense has struggled through two games. It was better against the Missouri Tigers, playing bend but don’t break, but it was disastrous covering the slot against the South Carolina Gamecocks. Shi Smith, another slot receiver, had 140 yards and a touchdown in that game. As a result, UGA will likely look at Jackson’s way a lot in this game.

The key is the return of Shawn Shamburger. Jeremy Pruitt announced he would be back at nickel this week after missing the first two games, and PFF rates him as the Vols’ best returning player. But how rusty is he? That will be the key. If he’s good to go, this issue for UT should subside. However, if he truly is rusty, Jackson could go off.
