The AP and Coaches Polls still like the Tennessee football Volunteers.

A 44-21 loss did not do too much damage to Tennessee football in the rankings this week. It seems as if the Vols leading the Georgia Bulldogs at halftime had a bigger impact than the 27 unanswered they allowed in the second half.

Rocky Top fell from No. 14 to No. 18 in the AP Poll and from No. 12 to No. 17 in the Coaches Poll. Georgia stayed at No. 3 in both polls while the Alabama Crimson Tide, whom the Bulldogs will face this week, were No. 2. The Clemson Tigers came in at No. 1.

In terms of new teams ahead of Tennessee football, the Texas A&M Aggies leapfrogged them in both polls after beating the Florida Gators. Meanwhile, the Vols fell behind the BYU Cougars, Wisconsin Badgers in both polls as well.

To get to No. 18 in the AP Poll, UT also fell behind the SMU Mustangs. They were already behind the Auburn Tigers in that poll and stayed behind them. In the Coaches Poll, they were ahead of Auburn last week but fell behind them. Although they remained ahead of SMU by one spot, they also fell behind the Oregon Ducks, whom they were ahead of last week.

Among SEC teams, the Vols were behind Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Texas A&M and Auburn in both polls. No other teams in the league were ranked in the top 25, although the Ole Miss Rebels, LSU Tigers and Missouri Tigers received votes in both polls. The Mississippi State Bulldogs, Kentucky Wildcats and Arkansas Razorbacks all also received votes in the Coaches Poll.

Up next for Rocky Top is a home game against Kentucky. Georgia and Alabama make up the only top 25 game of the week. At 2-1, there is still plenty for Tennessee football to play for. Pollsters haven’t given up on them yet, although they have a lot of work to do after that debacle.
