The time is set for the Tennessee football Volunteers against the Crimson Tide.

Coming off a blowout loss on CBS against the Georgia Bulldogs, Tennessee football is about to face another elite foe in the network’s primetime slot. Whether or not they have a better showing than what happened in the second half of last weekend is debatable.

Rocky Top will face the Alabama Crimson Tide Saturday, Oct. 24 at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS. That’s the last game for the Vols before they head into their bye week. Jeremy Pruitt’s team will first have to get past the Kentucky Wildcats this week on SEC Network.

While Tennessee football will play on CBS that day, the Auburn Tigers and Ole Miss Rebels will face off at Noon ET on SEC Network, and the South Carolina Gamecocks and LSU Tigers will face off at 4 p.m. ET on the same channel. The Southeastern Conference revealed its slate of games on Twitter Monday.

More from Vols Football

UT faced both South Carolina and the Missouri Tigers on SEC Network, so after Alabama, they will have played two games on CBS and three games on the SEC Network. The only other game on the Vols’ slate with a time stamp is at the Arkansas Razorbacks on Nov. 7, which is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on either ESPN or the SEC Network.

As of right now, the Vols are on an eight-game losing streak when playing on CBS, including this past Saturday’s loss. Their last win was back in 2016, when they beat the Missouri Tigers 63-37 on Senior Day.

In fact, dating back to 2011, UT is 4-18 in CBS games, and three of those wins came in 2016 while one came in 2015. Take out those two years, and the Vols are 0-14 dating back to that time. If you take it back to the beginning of the post-Phillip Fulmer era, they are 5-23 in all CBS games and 4-21 in CBS primetime games.

Simply put, this channel hasn’t been favorable to Tennessee football over the past decade-plus. However, as Fulmer used to say, every game and season stands on its own. The other problem, though, is that Jeremy Pruitt is a Nick Saban assistant, and Saban is still undefeated against his assistants. So if UT were to pull off the shocker, lots of things would have to happen.
