Defeated Tennessee Volunteers 44-21

Yes, the Georgia Bulldogs top our SEC Power Rankings after another elite second half to dominate Tennessee football. They will face the Alabama Crimson Tide this weekend to see which team stays undefeated and which team takes this spot.

Just like it did against the Arkansas Razorbacks, Kirby Smart’s team looked hideous against the Vols in the first half. A series of mistakes resulted in them heading into the locker room trailing 21-17. After that, though, they just went off, forcing back to back turnovers to open the third quarter and reeling off 27 straight points to win in dominating fashion.

Remember, with Arkansas, these guys were looking ahead to the Auburn Tigers. With the Vols, they had just beaten Auburn and were about to face the Alabama Crimson Tide. Such trap games can make for sloppy play early on, but whenever the Dawgs have to get things going, they turn it on with ease.

On Saturday, they aren’t going to be overlooking Alabama for anything. Anyway, even if you take that out, UGA has a better resume than Alabama. The combined record of Georgia’s opponents is 5-4 (1-2, 2-1, 2-1) while the combined record of Alabama’s opponents is 4-5 (1-2, 2-1, 1-2). As a result, for right now, UGA tops the list.

Looking that good against Tennessee football, one of four undefeated teams heading into last weekend, speaks for itself. After Alabama, though, Georgia still has to refocus for the Kentucky Wildcats. They then have their bye before the Florida Gators. But for right now, it’s all about Bama.
