Tennessee football: 10 years Vols beat Alabama but not Kentucky
9. 1960
Tennessee: 20 Alabama: 7
Two years after that 1958 collapse, the Vols were in the middle of a tailspin under Bowden Wyatt. Meanwhile, the Alabama Crimson Tide were on the rise under Bear Bryant, although they hadn’t yet beaten UT with Bryant at the helm just yet, having tied them in 1959.

Both teams entered the game 2-0-1, but Alabama was ranked, so this should have been there year. In front of a home crowd, however, UT dominated Bryant again, winning 20-7, which got them back into the top 15 at No. 12 the next week.
Kentucky: 10 Tennessee: 10 (Tie)
After a 5-0-1 start, Tennessee football had gotten to No. 8 and seemed to be in a bit of a mini-rebound under Wyatt. However, they suffered back to back losses to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and No. 4 ranked Ole Miss Rebels to fall to 5-2-1.
That set the stage for the Kentucky Wildcats coming to town. At 4-4-1, UK was on a three-game winning streak. UT should have been better, though, and had a potential postseason bid to play for. Well, the two schools played to a 10-10 tie, ruining the Vols’ chances at that one.
Result of the season
Rocky Top rebounded to beat the Vanderbilt Commodores in a 35-0 blowout to finish 6-2-2 and ranked No. 19 in the final Coaches Poll. However, that would be the final year they were ever ranked as a program that ran the single-wing, which Robert Neyland had installed all the way back in 1926. Alabama, meanwhile, finished 8-1-2 and was about to emerge as a powerhouse.
