2. 2015: Upset No. 19 ranked Georgia Bulldogs 38-31

Previous week: Lost to Arkansas Razorbacks 24-20

Jeremy Pruitt gets to fall victim to one of the games on our list. At the time, he was defensive coordinator for the Georgia Bulldogs under Mark Richt. Tennessee football was in its third season under Butch Jones and started the year ranked No. 25.

However, after blowing a 17-0 lead to the Oklahoma Sooners and a 27-14 fourth quarter lead to the Florida Gators, they appeared left for dead. The Arkansas Razorbacks, who also had a bad start in their third year under Bret Bielema, came to town with a 1-3 record despite starting the year ranked No. 18.

UT took a 14-0 lead thanks to a 96-yard kickoff return by Evan Berry and an 89-yard scoring drive led by Joshua Dobbs. However, Arkansas dominated the rest of the way and pulled out a 24-20 win, dropping the Vols to 2-3 and making them the only team in the nation to blow three two touchdown leads on the year.

The next week, the SEC East favorites Georgia Bulldogs came to town, and they jumped out to a 24-3 lead. However, at the end of the first half, Dobbs hit Josh Smith on a 4th and 8 for a touchdown, and then after a fumbled kickoff, he led another touchdown drive.

That was all the momentum the Vols needed. They scored three more touchdowns in the second half for a 38-31 comeback win, their first win over UGA since 2009. This was seemingly a turnaround for Jones’ program, as after losing to the Alabama Crimson Tide the next week, UT would win 11 straight going into the next year. As we know, though, it didn’t last.
