One player a lot of Tennessee football fans probably expected more from entering this season is Bryce Thompson. A Preseason All-SEC preseason cornerback, Thompson has recorded 19 tackles and played in all five games this season for the Vols.

It’s not that he has been necessarily disappointing, but the zero interceptions and only one pass defended are less than the six interceptions Thompson compiled over his freshman and sophomore years. It should also be noted that the three interceptions he recorded in 2018 earned him a spot on the All-SEC freshman team.
During the bye week, Jeremy Pruitt revealed Thompson was playing with a torn bicep, adding that they expected it to heal on its own. From that, it seems like Thompson will be on the field come Saturday night.
If that’s the case, the Arkansas Razorbacks wide receiver group he’ll defend has two players with over 250 yards receiving: Treylon Burks (366) and De’Vion Warren (253). The former is No. 10 in the conference, six spots ahead of the Vols’ top receiver, Josh Palmer, who has 295 yards.
Many people believed Thompson would leave after this season to enter the NFL Draft. However, it’s looking more and more likely he’d benefit from another year on Rocky Top unless he has a terrific next five games.
Thompson needs to show off some of the ball skills the country took notice of the last two years when the play is sent his direction. Look for him to begin the second half of his third year with a solid performance for Tennessee football.
