1. Key players from the 2018 upset are still on the Vols.

Jeremy Pruitt isn’t the only person with experience beating Gus Malzahn’s Auburn Tigers. Tennessee football has plenty of players still on the team who were essential to that upset two years ago.

We start with Jarrett Guarantano. Although he hasn’t built on what he did in that game, Guarantano did throw for over 300 yards and two touchdowns against Auburn. He’s still on the team and should be fully healthy.

Ty Chandler, meanwhile, had 112 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown reception. Assuming he’s healthy, he could be a threa again. Josh Palmer led the team in receiving with three catches for 84 yards. He’s the No. 1 wideout this year.

On defense, Bryce Thompson had an interception, a pass deflection and a quarterback hurry. Deandre Johnson had a sack. Alontae Taylor, meanwhile, scored the defensive touchdown that made the difference in the game.

Even special teams has some returning talent. Brent Cimaglia nailed three field goals, two of which were from 42 and 45 yards out. He would have made a 48-yarder if it wasn’t blocked. Still, Cimaglia remains on the team, and he nailed two long field goals in UT’s last outing.

If these players could be key in upsetting the Auburn Tigers in 2018, they could do it again. Tennessee football has the weapons to pull this off. They just need the focus, and they need the coaches to put them in the right positions.
