The Tennessee football Volunteers have new dates against the Commodores and Aggies.

More dates have been moved around for the Tennessee football December slate. After Monday’s news that the Vols’ matchup with the Vanderbilt Commodores would be postponed, the Vols now have games set for Dec. 5,  Dec. 12 and Dec. 19.

UT Athletic Director Phillip Fulmer revealed on Vol Calls Wednesday night that Rocky Top’s home matchup with the Florida Gators is still on for Saturday, Dec. 5. That’s the one date that was on the slate back before the season started.

Now, though, Tennessee football will visit Vanderbilt on Dec. 12 and then host the Texas A&M Aggies on Dec. 19. Initially, UT was set to host A&M on Dec. 12 after that game was postponed back on Nov. 14.

At 2-5 and on a five-game losing streak, the postponement of the Vanderbilt game initially meant that the Vols were likely to fall to 2-7 before a chance at a win, Texas A&M and Florida are the No. 5 and No. 6 teams nationally in all polls. Given the fact that UT hasn’t beaten a ranked team in two years and is in a major funk, neither game seems winnable.

However, with Vanderbilt in between them, if the Vols have turned any corner, then they at least get a break between those two brutal matchups at least have a break in between them. To be fair, given Vanderbilt’s improvement, that’s no walk in the park either.

All of this reshuffling initially happened on Monday because the Missouri Tigers and Arkansas Razorbacks matchup was postponed. To allow for every game to be played, Vandy took the Hogs’ spot against Mizzou for this weekend, which is why the UT-Vanderbilt game was postponed.

There are still a few more games that may be shuffled, as the Alabama Crimson Tide and LSU Tigers, given the current slate, could only face each other on Dec. 19. However, that’s the date of the SEC Championship game, which Bama will likely play in. If the league does anything with that, it may also affect Tennessee football, but we’ll have to wait and see.
