UT resumes whatever is left of its so-called rivalry with the Florida Gators, who are heading to Rocky Top ranked No. 6 in the nation for a December SEC East showdown. Jeremy Pruitt’s team enters this game on a five-game losing streak.
Meanwhile, on the heels of a 34-10 win over the Kentucky Wildcats, Dan Mullen’s team enters the game on a five-game winning streak and with a chance to clinch the SEC East. Here is all you need to know about their matchup with Tennessee football.

This is the 50th matchup between the two schools. Florida leads the all-time series 29-20 and is currently on a three-game winning streak against the Vols. They have won 14 of the past 15 games dating back to 2005.
The last win in the series for UT was in 2016, when they trailed 21-0 at one point and 21-3 at halftime but scored 35 straight in the second half to go up 38-21 and eventually win 38-28. Joshua Dobbs accounted for five touchdowns in that game.
However, the Vols last played Florida in December in 2001. Just like this year with Kyle Trask, the Gators had a Heisman Trophy favorite at quarterback in Rex Grossman in that game, and just like this year, they were favored by three scores in that game. Oh, they were also a one-loss team with a chance to win the SEC East and play for a national title in that game.
Led by Phillip Fulmer, though, Tennessee football pulled off a 34-32 upset that day in what would be Steve Spurrier’s final home game as coach of the Florida Gators. However, the Vols were actually in contention for the East and national title too that year, unlike this year. Still, that was a memorable win for Rocky Top, and they are once again set to face off in December.
