Pass blocking

More from All for Tennessee

Eric Gray is not on this list because he’s the main culprit here. Despite the yards he gained last weekend, they didn’t make up for how many blocks he missed and how often he failed to pick up blitzes. That kept the quarterbacks under a lot of pressure. Beyond Gray, though, Darnell Wright continues to not live up to the hype at right tackle.

Really, those two guys have been the main issue. Tennessee football will get better at center, as they started two new guys Saturday due to Brandon Kennedy being out. But the pass protection continues to be abysmal, and there’s no sign of it getting better. It just doesn’t get called out enough, particularly Gray’s play.

Safeties

Jaylen McCollough and Trevon Flowers have been a huge issue all year for Tennessee football’s pass defense, and nothing changed on Saturday. They continue to be out of position, making Vol fans miss Nigel Warrior desperately. With Bryce Thompson even having a bad day, it was bound to only get worse.

Now, Thompson and Warren Burrell together made it worse, but the safety struggle has been more consistent over time. Consistently getting torched deep over the middle falls on these guys, and it’s time they were called out a bit.
