Tennessee football: Five Vanderbilt Commodores to watch for against Vols
6’0″ 198 pounds; Hometown: Brentwood, Tenn.
- Amir Abdur-Rahman
- Chris Pierce (5 TDs)
- Keyon Brooks RB banged up, not clear if play
This hasn’t changed in the past few weeks. The biggest threat to Tennessee football’s secondary is a speedy receiver who can line up at wideout or in the slot and doesn’t necessarily pose an imposing physical presence with his size.

Cam Johnson fits that profile for the Vanderbilt Commodores. He also leads the team in receiving. For the year, Johnson has 49 catches for 481 yards and two touchdowns. He is also the punt return specialist and is averaging 9.2 yards on 5 punt returns, meaning he is always a threat to break one loose.
Other wideouts have also been a threat, to be fair. Chris Pierce leads the team with 5 receiving touchdowns, and Amir Abdur-Rahman has 337 receiving yards and a touchdown. Both players are 6’4″ and help take attention away from Johnson.
However, Todd Fitch will always find ways to get the ball to Johnson. He is Ken Seals’ top target. With issues in the running game due to leading rusher Keyon Henry-Brooks being questionable, Johnson’s elite abilities will be even more relied upon. Simply put, Vandy will find every way possible to put the ball in his hands.
Kadarius Toney of the Florida Gators, John Metchie III of the Alabama Crimson Tide and Shi Smith of the Alabama Crimson Tide are all speedy guys who torched Tennessee football. If the Vols aren’t careful, Cam Johnson could do the same thing to them. As a result, they have to watch out.
