Josh Palmer began his senior season on Rocky Top with a bang, going for over 70 yards in each of the first three games of the season. The last of those three weeks was a standout performance of 71 yards and two touchdowns against the Georgia Bulldogs.

Recently, the Vols have found success throwing the ball switching from Jarrett Guarantano to splitting time between Harrison Bailey and J.T. Shrout at quarterback. But since the change at quarterback, Palmer’s production surprisingly hasn’t improved.
Still, approaching the final game of Tennessee football’s 2020 regular season, Palmer remains the team’s leading receiver with 420 yards and four touchdowns. Because of players like Jalin Hyatt and Velus Jones Jr. providing UT’s quarterbacks with open targets, the early-season pressure on Palmer as UT’s top target is all-but gone at this point.
What will likely be his last game in Neyland Stadium could very well be his best. He’s had to deal with lazy play-calling and a multitude of quarterback issues, but none of that will matter when the Aggies visit Knoxville this weekend.
For a player believed likely to leave Rocky Top for the NFL Draft, this could be his last shot to prove he’s ready for the next level. Expect UT to fire away this weekend with Palmer being Jim Chaney’s desired target.
