New Orleans Saints wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders praised the former Tennessee football Volunteers player.

He was an undrafted free agent, but Marquez Callaway is slowly making his way onto the list of former Tennessee football players to overachieve in the pro. It helps that the rookie wide receiver is in a great situation playing in Sean Payton’s offense.

Callaway, who played with the Vols from 2016 to 2019, is starting to draw the attention of some high-profile teammates, and we’re not just talking about fellow former Vols Alvin Kamara and Shy Tuttle. Emmanuel Sanders is touting Callaway as well.

When discussing Callaway on Wednesday, Sanders said he would be a special player in the NFL. A two-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion, Sanders’ advice to the public was for everybody to “remember his name.”

So far this year, Callaway only has 18 catches for 162 yards and no touchdowns. However, he has also returned 11 punts for 122 yards and four kickoffs for 94 yards. Callaway, just as he did with Tennessee football, is proving himself to be one of the best players in the nation when he has the ball in his hands.

Obviously, given Sean Payton’s system, New Orleans is the perfect place for receivers to begin to build their profile. It’s also a place where former Vols go to overachieve, evidenced by the other two players from UT on the team.

Kamara just set an NFL record with six rushing touchdowns in a game and is on the way to his fourth Pro Bowl in his fourth year in the league. He somehow fell to the third round of the NFL Draft despite his production.

Tuttle, meanwhile, was an undrafted free agent like Callaway and signed with the Saints in 2019. By the end of the year, he was a regular rotational player in the system thanks to two sacks and an interception, and has remained in that role through this year. So far in 2020, he has 25 total tackles, 15 of which were solo.

Combine those two former Tennessee football players with Callaway drawing praise from one of the most reliably consistent receivers of the past 10 years, and he’s got a lot to be excited about. Watch out for what he turns into.
