1. Hugh Freeze

No, really. Who else did you expect to be sitting here at No. 1? There’s a reason #HireFreeze and #HughtotheHill have been gaining steam amongst Tennessee football fans active on social media since October.

More from All for Tennessee

Hugh Freeze, who got his start coaching Briarcrest Christian High School in Memphis, Tenn., has just about everything you could want in an SEC head coach: High-powered offenses, proven recruiting results, ability to develop talent, Twitter activity, and wins over ranked opponents. You name it and Freeze has it.

Freeze has been successful over the two seasons he’s served as Liberty University’s head coach, but most know him for the five-seasons he spent with Ole Miss. There, Freeze led the Rebels to two New Year’s Six bowls and managed to defeat Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide in back-to-back seasons.

The Ole Miss offenses Freeze assembled averaged 30 or more points in four of the five seasons he spent in Oxford. With players like D.K. Metcalf, A.J. Brown, Laquon Treadwell and Donte Moncrief running routes in Ole Miss jerseys, that should come as no surprise.

It’s worth noting that Freeze was dismissed from his position as Ole Miss head coach because of matters pertaining to NCAA violations. If the Vols were to fire Jeremy Pruitt for reasons related to the recruiting investigation, turning around and hiring Freeze could seem absurd.

But Tennessee football fans can sure hope. They aren’t new to doing that, and for Freeze, who has proven to be a big fish in a little pond with the Flames, it wouldn’t shock anyone if he took a Power Five job sometime soon.
