What Chadwell did with the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers is nothing short of phenomenal. He took over their first year in FCS play, in 2017, and three years later, he led them to an 11-1 record and Sun Belt Conference Championships. That combined with his roots and the fact that he brings a fun, innovative offensive mind all seem to make him a great hire for Tennessee football.
However, unfortunately, he’s got too much baggage. Remember, Chadwell left the Charleston Southern Buccaneers after four years as head coach there at the end of 2016 to take an assistant job at Coastal Carolina. Just two years later, the NCAA brought the hammer down on that program for serious violations across all sports, much of which occurred under Chadwell.
So Chadwell, who also coached the North Greenville Crusaders from 2009 to 2011 and the Delta State Statesmen in 2012, has a track record of overseeing NCAA violations at a program and leaving just before that program gets in trouble. Given what’s about to hit UT, that makes him one person they can’t afford to hire.
