Henry To’o To’o, J.J. Peterson and Quavaris Crouch have all entered the transfer portal. That leaves really only Jeremy Banks as returning impact players with any experience. When you add in the departures of Kivon Bennett and Deandre Johnson, which we already mentioned, any linebacker spot is wide open this year.
Well, the Vols only added one linebacker in this recruiting class. Aaron Willis, a member of the Washington, D.C.-Maryland-Virginia are, or DMV, transferred from St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Md. to his current school in Chester, Va., outside of the District of Columbia region and less than half an our south of Richmond, Va.
A four-star across all boards, Willis stands between 5’11” and 6’0″ and weighs somewhere between 200 and 210 pounds. He is also listed as an inside linebacker on Rivals and 247Sports but an outside linebacker on ESPN, suggesting he has the ability to play both positions as need, a big deal given the transition.
When you combine his rating, the fact that he is the only linebacker in the class, his versatility and the need at linebacker, Willis is well-positioned to play early. As a result, he’s Tennessee football’s 2021 freshman signee most likely to have a big early impact.
